“Everything feels good – from the general vibes to the fabrics, music and art photography on the walls – it is all carefully thought out. The cosmic black and gold mannequins have a way of marking your psyche for days, they are like nothing I have seen before.”
It has been an incredible 2015 and I could not have asked for a better way to start the new year, other than standing inside of the beautiful new sparkling KASPACE in Toronto. I know every letter, word, paragraph and edited parts of this story and the fact that this space is born is a testament to true faith, hard work and believing in one’s dreams.
It has been years (6 years to be exact) of listening to my other half tell me about this vision he has; a vision of creating a space that redefines the way retail is created. You see, he knew since the very inception of KA Magazine in 2009, that he would eventually bring the pages of this publication to life within a live experiential space – where the visitor could taste, touch, feel, listen, read, wear and just be in this good vibes environment of beauty, art, inspiration and fashion with a single thread linking it all – mindfulness and ethical lifestyle.
KASPACE, the very first location, has just opened this month on Carlaw Avenue in Toronto’s Leslieville district. It is a white lightbox of pure eyewash – similar to traveling to another city and being immersed in creativity and light – except this is the very first of its kind. Everything feels good – from the general vibes to the fabrics, music and art photography on the walls – it is all carefully thought out. The cosmic black and gold mannequins have a way of marking your psyche for days, they are like nothing I have seen before.
In this concept space, there is ethically created fashion by Kevin Allwood Atelier, lifestyle self-care natural products by KALIFE, the A.G.O.M.A. Art Gallery – and soon to open the KA Bookshop – with stunning art books and magazines as well as the KA Cafe, a meat-free / dairy-free wellness cafe (my kind of spot!). The goal is for you to read your KA magazine and live in it too!
Now back to fashion – I love fashion, and since creating Holistic Editor, I have been on the hunt for ethical, cruelty-free, sustainable brands world wide. At the top of my list (and I swear I am not biased!) is Kevin Allwood Atelier – it is rare to meet a true creator, and he is the real deal. Every piece of the collection is created with such attention to detail, such craftsmanship and skill – that the clothing is art in and of itself. And the best part is – all is made by hand here in Toronto, Canada and all is cruelty-free.
Since it is cold out, I choose a cozy look to wear with the high collar oversized jacket, second skin (you don’t understand how soft they are) pants, vegan white croco tote bag, and my new obsession – the white organic “ethical” bamboo hat which I seriously live in on a daily basis when in Toronto. People seem to love the message on the front, literally everywhere I go, everyone stares at my forehead. Then they smile at me because they just read “Love, Evolve, Ethical, Positive”…who doesn’t smile and send good vibes to someone walking around with this message on them? Exactly. You attract what you put out, always.
Just this week, KASPACE launched the start of its online shop, where we can get a glimpse at some of the pieces available in store, and many are now also available online for those long-distance shoppers (including my beloved white hat). Many of the pieces however – like gowns and evening wear – are only available via the Atelier and store, where clients get fitted with a more personal touch. Love e-com, but truly nothing can replace the real vibes of human interaction and creative bespoke clothing and couture. And love the Internet, but nothing also compares to print…
Speaking of print, cannot wait to unveil a new Holistic Editor project I have been working on within KA MAGAZINE’s new Volume 7 – Art issue coming out at the end of January – you guessed it, it will be available at KASPACE.
More to come – this is just the beginning
